RZR Wheel And Tire Upgrades

Many Polaris RZR owners we’ve spoken with want to update their machine’s wheels and tires but aren’t sure what size to go with. Regardless of tire brand, 30″ or 32″ tires are quite common, and both sizes will clear the fender wells, shocks, and other neighboring components with ease. A clutch kit, on the other hand, is something we frequently recommend. Although a Polaris RZR or RS1 clutch kit isn’t required, you’ll notice the difference — especially if you run a bigger tire and/or wheel combination.

Many people believe that if you don’t upgrade your clutch when running larger tires, you’ll start breaking stuff, however where and how you drive has a much stronger impact on clutch performance. With the stock Polaris RZR clutch, you can still ride tails and rocks, as well as fairly steep hill climbs and tricky tracks. However, your best bet will be to run in low range 90% of the time and not overwork your bike.

When choosing a tire size, keep in mind the size of your machine’s engine. 30″ tires are nearly ideal for the Polaris RZR 1000. You’ll lose virtually no power and be able to plow through almost anything without putting more strain on the axles, CV joints, or other drivetrain and powertrain components, including the belt.

RZR Safety Upgrades

Safety equipment, in addition to tire and wheel upgrades for the Polaris RZR, are something that should never be disregarded. While upgrading the cage is a possibility (the default Polaris RZR cage won’t hold up to much abuse), seatbelt improvements are a certain way to keep you and your passengers safe while ripping it up in a Polaris RZR.

We prefer to recommend 4-point or 5-point harnesses at Everything Polaris RZR. If you or your passengers need to get in and out of the car frequently, 5-point harnesses can be a pain, which is why many riders opt for the simpler 4-point harness. However, 5-point Polaris RZR harnesses provide anti-submarine support, which may be useful in the event of a crash.

Fire extinguishers are another optional UTV gear that is nevertheless useful to have on hand. On the other hand, you could always let your UTV burn down, get the insurance money, and use it to put down a deposit on the latest and greatest Polaris Razor. All joking aside, safety should be your top priority, because holding a steering wheel with a shattered collar bone is difficult.

RZR Suspension Upgrades

The suspension system is the final system we’ll look at. Some RZR riders prefer a soft, mushy ride, while others prefer a rough, firm ride. Shock upgrades are a simple way to adjust the suspension of your machine to the terrain you’re riding on. King shocks, for example, are famous because they will adjust them for you if you attend an event where they are present. Alternatively, they can instruct you over the phone on how to do it yourself.

However, be aware that knock-offs are widespread on Ebay, so be cautious and make sure you’re receiving the original article. Aside from King shocks for the Polaris RZR, we’ve heard excellent things about Fox’s RC Race Podium shocks and Elka Suspension’s off-road shocks. While the price of such suspension configurations may cause sticker shock, the performance benefits they provide make them well worth it — especially if you have a Highlifter XP version that you want to run a gear reduction on for 32″ tires.
